Dog Training, Visitor Mounting/Humping!
Put a stop to dog visitor humping!
Firstly, it’s important to remember that dogs do not share our view on anti-social behaviour ;-)
A dog ‘humps’/mounts a person usually because they are in a heightened or charged state that can include being stressed or excited*.
Humping is performed to relieve this stress.
DO NOT reprimand your dog for humping.
This 1. Adds to your dogs stress and
2. Your dog will seek out another replacement behaviour to relieve this stress which is not always ‘good’ (perhaps destructive for example).
You could try giving your dog a ’sucky’ toy to play with when they are stressed and take a look at the mental and physical exercise your dog is getting, pent-up energy can cause an increase in tension and anxiety.
*I have seen humping increase when new babies come onto the scene. The family dog is getting less attention and the environment is stressful.
